Carino House

<1 of 3>

A ruined stone house set back into the rocky hillside of a village near Carino in North West Spain was the base for a renovation and extension to create a rural family house. As the site was terraced down the very steep hillside the extension to the house followed this topography creating a series of interconnected half levels looking down to views of the Atlantic Ocean.

Spanish planning requirements meant that as much of the original structure and features were retained with the new additions being designed in materials from the local vernacular but in a contemporary manner. A local Spanish architect was commissioned to navigate the project through the planning procedure as UK architects are not able to do this.
